It is every musicians dream to someday, somehow make it big. And that is not where the similarities end. While we may not have the crazy rock star hair yet, or the screaming groupies, us guitarists and musicians all share the same dreams. Whether you think you’re destined to become a screeching lead singer, one of the best guitarists the world has ever seen, or one of the craziest dudes to bang around on a drum set, we would want nothing more than to be on stage before thousands of screaming fans. So what is it that sets someone like Jimi Hendrix, or Curt Cobain aside from someone like you or me? Well today we will focus on just that. What does it really takes to make it big, and land that record label of your dreams?
The first video to make it onto the site. In case you haven’t noticed some of us here at daily guitarist really like the Smashing Pumpkins. Really really like them actually.
Today’s blog entry will be A collection of my personal favorite guitar tab sites that I have collected over the years. I have been playing guitar for over 8 years now, and have been getting progressively better each year. Alot of this has been due to my discovering of guitar tabs being offered online. I remember spending countless hours trying to balance my guitar in my lap, while sitting in front of a computer screen learning songs from some of my favorite artists.
I have always had a liking to the acoustic guitar, so my first link will be a site dedicated entirely to acoustic tabs. http://www.tabs4acoustic.com/uk/index.php is A great site to go to and wander around clicking on some of the best tabbed acoustic songs ever. Oh yeah, the site is primarily in french, but thankfully guitarists not familiar with the french language can easily transform this site into english with the click of a button.
While at first I did not like John Mayer, one must give credit when it is due, and he is one hell of a guitar player. http://www3.sympatico.ca/g403z/ is a site with tabs to just about every song John Mayer has ever released, as well as some covers that he has performed live. John Mayer is an extremely talented guitarist, and I personally find playing his songs challenging while at the same time alot of fun.
When I first discovered tabs online, I was really big into the Dave Matthews Band, probably like alot of young guitarists around today. I spend alot of time learning Dave’s creative chords and riffs that he puts together so nicely on so many of his songs. http://www.dmbtabs.com is a site that I can go to on any day of the week, and relearn all of my favorite songs by him, as well as some of hes renditions of many famous covers that he has performed live over the years. The site is very easy to navigate and i find it very easy to spend a couple of hours there and not even realize it.
When I need to find a guitar tab that might not be listed anywhere else, I know where to turn. http://www.tabcrawler.com has over 255,000 guitar tabs, and if this site does not have what you’re looking for than you might as well start tabbing the song out yourself. For years Tab Crawler has been one of the premiere destinations for guitar tabs, and is still so today.
I hope you find these links as helpful as I did. Take some time looking around these sites, and try learning a song from someone you have never played on guitar before. Alot of my drive to play guitar comes learning new riffs and chords that I have never played before. For me, finding ways of making new sounds come out of my guitar that I have never heard before is what keeps me playing everyday.
During the next few weeks here at dailyguitarist.com we will be having a guitar tournament with brackets and everything to determine who is the best guitarist of all time. There will be a new poll posted every week with various guitarists to choose from. The top two guitarists of that week will move forward to round two. So check back frequently, vote (up to two guitarists) and dont forget to make comments so we can determine Who is the Best Guitarist Ever.
”Puberty was very vague. I literally locked myself in a room and played guitar” - Johnny Depp
Well what better way to help get you through a time of changes and new opportunities than a guitar? Honestly, I feel like the one thing that has been there with me throughout my life, all the way back to the crazy days of adolesence has been my Ovation Guitar. I remember for Christmas one year, I recieved A Sunburst Ovation Celebrity Acoustic/Electric Guitar from my parents.
There’s something about the sound of that guitar unplugged that is enough to soothe any rainy day. Then again I always have been A huge fan of acoustics. As for the riot picture, what can I say, something about this quote made a riot come to mind. Or maybe it’s the endless hours I have been spending the past few days listening to Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins new album Zeitgeist. Nothing says rock like Johnny Depp and the smashing pumpkins in the same blog entry, ya dig?
